Pregnancy is a phase there is a lot of hormonal changes especially in the levels of Oestrogen and Progesterone hormones. They don’t induce the disease as such but they worsen the already present condition.

WHAT CAUSES GUM DISEASES?

It is known that the main cause for all the gum diseases is the accumulation of food debris around the tooth which is called plaque. This causes swelling of gums which leads to bleeding. The other findings are receding gums, bad breath, tissue detaching from the teeth causing pocket formation, bone loss, tooth loss, etc.

In pregnancy, all these conditions are more severe because some of the immune mediators in our body which increase or exacerbate the normal tissue response.
